Why Isopropyl Alcohol & Purified Water?

Not all cleaning alcohols are created equal.
For example, ethyl alcohol (or ethanol) is commonly found in many cleaning solutions on the market, from hand sanitizers to bulk cleaning supplies for business environments. This is due to it being very effective at disinfecting a wide variety of surfaces and because it is the gentlest (between isopropyl alcohol and n-propanol) on skin. Its only drawback is that sometimes it it is known to leave traces of oil behind on the surface after evaporation has taken place. This can pose a problem for highly sensitive electronics if exposed to these oils.

Isopropyl alcohol (or isopropanol) is incredibly useful for cleaning sensitive electronics, devices and surfaces efficiently and effectively in nearly every environment from the household to the laboratory. It is highly safe for electronics due to its rapid evaporation rate and because it sanitizes most surfaces within seconds. Isopropanol’s drawback is that it is not very gentle on skin, so handling large volumes of it with bare hands should be avoided as it is damaging to the skin.

Other cleaning formulas like those of standard glass cleaners, which contain ammonia or phosphate, can work well for certain cleaning tasks – but these solutions will eventually degrade touchscreens if continually used on them. This will result in lost performance and productivity due to equipment failure, downtime and costly repairs.

Our focus at iCloth is on true optical clarity. We use only the purest of ingredients. This is why all of our formulas use pharmaceutical grade isopropyl alcohol and purified water.
Our formulas do not contain any harmful ammonia, NPEs, silicones, or ethyl alcohol.

iCloth Premium wipes have a purified water-based formula containing around 25% to 39% IPA and were created to penetrate buildup and dissolve grime on sensitive optics and electronics.
And, to meet the recent adjustments made to many cleaning and disinfecting guidelines around the world (including the CDC’s), we have created a new range of products. Our 70% IPA range of wipes contain a formula of 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30% purified water.
This higher concentration of isopropyl alcohol ensures an effective and spot-free clean while remaining safe for use on all sensitive electronics.

Why Premium, Non-Woven Cloth?

Various types of cloths (microfiber or terry, for example) or paper/kitchen towels are commonly used for everyday cleaning tasks in industrial, commercial or residential settings.
For general cleaning purposes, microfiber cloths, which are great at picking up dirt and debris, or disposable items such as brown paper or kitchen towels are excellent due to their convenience. There are a few drawbacks, though.

Microfiber cloths can become noticeably dirty quite quickly. This means they will need to be specially laundered regularly to keep them clean and working as intended.
Brown paper or disposable kitchen towels, not being as absorbent in nature, will often not lift the grime off surfaces properly, resulting in smears of dirt. They are also usually made from wood fiber, making them less than ideal for use on screens, as over time, they will create micro-scratches and abrasions damaging and degrading your screens surfaces – making them harder to clean and allowing even more debris to gather.

Our iCloth cloth wipes are made from a super soft, aerospace-grade, non-woven material that is exceptionally strong, soft, extremely low-linting, and excellent at lifting dirt.
They were designed to be gentle on all screens, electronics and delicate surfaces. The cloths will not scratch or harm your optical or sensitive surfaces in any way, and since they are individually wrapped, they will be free of debris, unlike microfiber cloths which can sometimes catch/trap debris and potentially scratch the screens or surface they are used on.
The wipes come pre-moistened with formula, allowing them to have the optimal absorbency and effectiveness for every cleaning task.

Why Individually Wrapped Wipes?

Cleaning solutions come in many different forms these days, from canisters of pre-moistened wipes to bottles of formula paired with a cloth.

Canisters of wipes (usually re-sealable and often disinfecting) are a great option for cleaning around the house or office.
Though great at disinfecting, a large problem with wipes in tub style containers is that if the cap is left open, they can dry out. The wipes in these containers are usually overly saturated as well, meaning they can drip liquid onto or into the devices when used, resulting in damage.
The formula of the solutions also usually needs to stay on the surface for around three to ten minutes to disinfect effectively, and this often results in a haze or residue being left behind. These formulas can often damage the display’s surface as well, and over time degrade the surface and or its coatings.
To get the surface properly clean, this would require a wipe down again with a separate clean cloth to remove this residue after the solution has finished working.

Spray or Squirt Bottles of formula (usually paired with a cloth) often contain a formula of Isopropyl alcohol are a great choice for home or office use, as the formula can be purchased in large quantities. Paired with either a microfiber cloth or paper towel, these can make for a simple and cost-effective cleaning solution.
However, spray bottles often aren’t always labeled, and open bottles of alcohol are not that ideal in a business environment either. It can also be difficult to gauge how much solution is required to dampen the towel or cloth to clean effectively, meaning a lot of formula is wasted.
